Bidaai is the story of an extremely beautiful girl, whose beauty threatens to become a curse for her. Sadhana is a girl with humble background and middle class values. She lives in Agra with her Mama and Mami. Her mother died when Sadhana was five. Today, Sadhana's father Kishenchand is in America, miles away from his beloved daughter, working only to fulfill his dead wife's dream - Sadhana's bidaai.

Sadhana's Mama Prakshchand is a man of honor… A father of two himself, he has brought up Sadhana as his own child. For seventeen years he has been a father to her, but Sadhana's Mami could not become a mother for her because she sees Sadhana as a constant threat to her own daughter's future. Ragini is Prakshchand's daughter. She is not beautiful, but she is a good natured girl.

Mami, who was a victim of dark complexion herself, always feels that Ragini will never be able to get married if Sadhana is around. So she tries to distance Ragini from Sadhana. On the other hand, the relation between Sadhana and Ragini is just the reverse of what Mami wants it to be. Sadhana and Ragini are inseparable… They are always there for each other.

Sadhana has spent seventeen years in this family. Though she has got the love of Mama and Ragini, she has always faced the wrath of Mami's silent anger.

For Sadhana, life so far is simple yet complicated. And then, the story moves to another level. Kishenchand is coming back to take Sadhana. It looks like all complications will be resolved, but destiny has something else in store for Sadhana. Kishenchand dies in a plane crash and Sadhana should now remain permanently in this household… Will she be able to? Will mama be able to fulfill the dream of Sadhana's bidaai?
